Doing a coolant flush on a 2012 Buick Verano isn’t too bad — just takes a bit of time and care. Here’s a basic rundown:
- Let the engine cool completely. Don’t mess with hot coolant — it’s dangerous.
- Pop the hood and remove the radiator cap. This helps the system drain easier.
- Find the lower radiator hose (passenger side, underneath). There’s no drain plug on a lot of these, so you’ll need to pull that hose off to drain the coolant. Have a big drain pan ready — it’ll come out fast.
- Once it drains out, reconnect the hose and fill the system with distilled water. Run the engine with the heat on full blast for a few minutes to circulate it.
- Shut it down, let it cool, and drain again. That’ll get most of the old stuff out.
- After that second drain, fill it back up with the proper 50/50 mix of Dex-Cool coolant and distilled water. Burp the system by squeezing the upper radiator hose and topping off as needed.
- Some Veranos have a bleeder xxxx near the thermostat housing — open that slightly while filling to help let trapped air out.
Keep an eye on the coolant level over the next couple drives and top off if needed.
