Replacing the rear roller guide in the boom on a JCB 506B telehandler is definitely a hands-on job, but not too crazy if you’ve got the right tools and some patience.
Here’s the general idea:
- Extend the boom out enough so you can access the rear roller area safely. You’ll want to support the boom properly before doing anything — safety first.
- Remove any guards or covers around the roller guide area. Some models might have access panels that need to be taken off.
- Take the weight off the roller — sometimes this means supporting the inner boom with a jack or a sling to relieve pressure on the roller so it can come out cleanly.
- Unbolt the roller assembly — most are secured with bolts from the side or underneath. You might need to tap it out gently depending on how stuck it is.
- Install the new roller — grease it up properly, line it up, and torque the bolts to spec.
- Double-check alignment and movement — once it's in, retract and extend the boom a few times (slowly) to make sure everything’s rolling smooth and not binding.
This process can vary a bit depending on whether you’re replacing just the roller or the whole guide assembly.
