If you're trying to pull the starter on a 2010 Supercharged Range Rover (L322, 5.0L), brace yourself because it ain't the easiest job in the world — but not impossible to do it on your own. Starter sits right in the V of the engine, under the xxxx intake manifold and blower, so yeah… you’ve got some stuff to rip off first.
Here’s how I’d go at it:
- Disconnect the battery — don't skip this unless you like sparks.
- Pull the engine cover and all the intake ducting.
- Remove the throttle body and set it aside — don’t yank the wires, just move it enough to work.
- Unbolt and lift the supercharger — be careful with the coolant lines on the back. Label stuff if you're gonna forget.
- Under that, you’ll see the intake manifold — that’s gotta come off too.
- Once the intake’s off, now you’ll see the starter sitting dead center, between the heads.
- Unplug the starter wiring and remove the two mounting bolts. That’s it — it’ll come right out.
While you're in there:
- Use new intake gaskets — don’t reuse the old ones, they always leak.
- Label every hose and connector — the vacuum system’s a mess if you lose track.
- Use a towel to cover the intake ports once they’re exposed — one dropped bolt and your day’s ruined.
Now look, this job’s doable in the driveway, but it’s not a 30-min job. If you’ve never been under one of these before, having this manual on your hand helps a lot. It has the manufacturer-provided torque specs, diagrams, vacuum routing, all that, ensuring you can do the job properly.
