If your Audi A5 has the electronic parking brake (which most of them do these days), here's how you'd usually release it:
Step on the brake pedal first, then just pull the little switch near the gear shifter that looks like a “P” with a circle around it. You’ll hear a faint motor sound, and the parking brake light on the dash should go out. Some models will even auto-release the brake as soon as you start driving, as long as your seatbelt's on and the doors are shut.
If it’s acting up or won’t let go, it could be something simple like a weak battery or a seatbelt not clicked in. Worst case, it might throw a warning on the dash, which means you’d probably need to check it with a scan tool — this is a case where the service manual comes in handy.
If you’ve got one of the older A5s with a regular handbrake lever, just step on the brake, pull the lever up a bit, press the release button, and ease it down.
