For Arctic Cat ATVs, the year is usually tied to the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number). Here’s how I usually track it down:
- Check the VIN plate – On most Arctic Cat 500s, you’ll find it stamped on the left-hand side of the frame, near the front lower A-arm or on the steering column. Sometimes there’s also a sticker under the seat or on the frame rail.
- Look at the 10th digit of the VIN – That letter or number tells you the model year. For example:
- Y = 2000
- 1 = 2001
- 2 = 2002
- 3 = 2003 … and so on. After 2009 they started using letters again (A = 2010, B = 2011, etc.).
- Cross-check with parts/decals – Sometimes the plastics or labels have a build date sticker, which gives you a good idea if the VIN is hard to read.
So in short, find the VIN → check the 10th digit → that’s your year.
