If your Jetta’s AC drain is clogged, the condensation that should be dripping under the car ends up pooling inside the HVAC box — sometimes even leaking into the cabin.
Here’s a general way to clear it:
- Locate the drain – On most Jettas, it’s a small rubber tube or xxxx on the firewall (engine bay side) just below the HVAC unit.
- Clear the blockage – Use a flexible plastic zip tie, pipe cleaner, or similar (never metal wire) to gently push into the drain and break up any debris. Don’t force it too far in.
- Flush if needed – You can blow compressed air gently into the drain from the outside, or pour a small amount of warm water mixed with mild soap through the evaporator case from the cabin side (access through the cabin air filter opening) to help wash it out.
- Check for water flow – After clearing, run the AC for a few minutes; you should see water dripping under the car again.
If you’re not sure where the drain is on your specific generation, the service manual diagrams will show the exact location and how to access it without damaging anything. The manual will also show you in detail how to fix a clogged AC drain, complete with step-by-step instructions, clear images, and exploded-view illustrations.
Good luck!
