If your XC90’s turn signals are completely dead (no dash indicator, no click, nothing), start with the simple stuff:
- Check the fuses – The turn signals and hazard lights usually share a fuse. If it’s blown, replace it and see if they come back.
- Try the hazard switch – On some Volvos, a faulty hazard switch can knock out the turn signals entirely because it’s part of the same circuit.
- Inspect the bulbs – Unlikely they all burned out at once, but worth checking in case of a short or corroded socket.
- Test the relay – The flasher relay could be dead. If your hazards also don’t work, this is a likely suspect.
- Look at the stalk switch – The turn signal lever itself can wear out internally and stop making contact.
Fortunately, the service manual will give you the exact fuse locations, wiring diagrams, and step-by-step tests with a multimeter to narrow it down. In fact, it has everything you need to conduct electrical-related repairs, including step-by-step instructions, clear images, and exploded-view illustrations.
Good luck!
