The 2012–2013 Sportsman 800 EFI and 800 EFI Big Boss 6x6 models use an electromagnetic front differential (ADC / AWD system) that’s activated by an electric signal sent through a dedicated wire and switch.
If you're changing the wire that activates the front differential:
-
Locate the AWD switch – It’s usually on the right handlebar pod.
-
Trace the wiring harness – Follow the wire from the switch down to the front gearcase actuator.
-
Disconnect the old wire – Unplug it from both ends (switch and actuator).
-
Install the replacement wire – Make sure connectors are snug and routed away from heat or moving parts.
-
Check fuses and relays – If the system isn’t engaging after the swap, inspect the AWD fuse and the AWD control relay.
-
Test the system – Switch the AWD on with the ignition key on, and verify engagement with the front wheels raised.
Fortunately, this manual includes the full wiring diagram, connector pinouts, and troubleshooting steps for the AWD system. So if you're doing this job on your own, it should have you covered.
