Sounds like the CD changer is throwing a tantrum, which is pretty common on older BMW Z3s.
A few things that could be going wrong:
-
Cartridge not fully seated – sometimes it just needs a firm push or a slight wiggle to catch properly.
-
Dust or dirty contacts – a bit of compressed air around the loading bay and cartridge contacts might help.
-
Internal gear failure – those plastic gears inside the changer love to crack with age.
-
Eject/load mechanism jammed – if you hear it whirring but nothing moves, the internal mechanism might be stuck or misaligned.
Fortunately. the manual has the audio system accessory covered, including step-by-step instructions, clear images, and exploded-view illustrations if you want to go deeper.
Good luck!
