Pulling the torque converter out of an HDF30 is not the worst job, but it’s a bit of a hassle.
First off you gotta split the trans from the engine. Before you yank the whole thing apart, look for an access port or pull the starter. Usually, there's a hole you can spin the engine through and get to the converter bolts. Take those out first, otherwise you’re fightin’ it.
Once those bolts are out, you can slide the transmission back, and the converter will either stay on the engine (rare) or come off with the trans — which is what you want. Just be ready; they’re heavy and sloppy, and you’ll spill ATF everywhere if you’re not careful.
When you go to put it back in, make sure that thing’s fully seated on the input shaft. If it ain’t locked in all the way, you’ll wreck the pump when you bolt it up.
If you're working on the Hyundai HDF30-5, you can find more details of this procedure in this Hyundai HDF20-5, HDF25-5, HDF30-5 Forklifts OEM Service & Repair Manual. It contains a section about transmission assembly and disassembly, including step-by-step instructions, clear images, and exploded-view illustrations.
