If the engine temp warning light is stuck on all the time on your Case 1840, even when the engine’s cold, there’s a good chance it’s either:
-
A bad coolant temperature sensor – That little guy might be shorted internally and sending a false “overheat” signal even when everything’s fine.
-
A grounded or damaged wire – Check the wiring from the temp sensor to the dash. If the wire’s rubbed through somewhere and grounding out, it'll light up the warning like you’re cooking the engine — even if you're not.
-
Faulty gauge cluster or warning module – Less common, but worth a look if the sensor and wiring check out.
A quick test would be to unplug the sensor with the key on. If the light goes out, it’s probably the sensor itself. If it stays on, then it’s wiring or dash-related.
