So you're stuck in backup camera mode even after shifting into Drive?
Most likely culprit is the reverse input signal getting stuck. Basically, the system still thinks you’re in Reverse even when you’re not.
Here’s what I’d check:
-
Shift range sensor (TR sensor) — If it’s starting to fail or out of adjustment, it might keep telling the camera system you’re in Reverse.
-
Wiring around the shifter or transmission — Look for damaged or corroded connectors. Water intrusion can mess with signal readings.
-
Body Control Module (BCM) or APIM glitch — Sometimes a hard reset (disconnect battery for 10–15 minutes) will kick it back to normal.
-
Software update — Ford had some SYNC-related bugs in that era that caused screen glitches like this. A dealer or scan tool with module programming might help.
Luckily, this repair manual includes wiring diagrams, sensor testing procedures, and module info if you want to dive deeper. The step-by-step instructions, clear images, and exploded-view illustrations are extremely helpful if you're fixing it yourself.
