Yeah, sounds like your XC90 might be having issues related to the CEM (Central Electronic Module) — and you're not the only one. That module controls a bunch of electrical stuff like ignition, AC, and communication between systems. Weird stuff like delayed starting or the AC turning on by itself after shutdown are classic signs of CEM trouble.
If your mechanic mentioned a Product Modification Program (PMP) or updated CEM software, he’s probably right. Volvo released updates or replacement CEMs for certain XC90s with similar symptoms, especially when electrical gremlins started showing up.
Here's what I'd recommend:
-
Have the codes pulled — preferably with a Volvo-compatible scanner like VIDA/DICE. Don’t just rely on generic OBD-II.
-
Check for software updates — Volvo can reflash or update the CEM to the latest version. Sometimes that's all it takes.
-
Inspect for moisture or corrosion — The CEM is under the dashboard on the driver’s side and can get water-damaged if the drainage around the windshield is clogged.
-
Check the battery health — low voltage from a weak battery can cause CEM-related issues too. Make sure your battery and alternator are in good shape.
Of course, it's kinda hard to advise you much regarding this issue without much detail on your model. But feel free to reach out to us and fill us in on that so we can assist you further ✌🏻
