Sounds like you're chasing a cooling issue, and you're on the right track already having replaced the impeller. A few things can still cause your Suzuki 9.9HP 4-stroke to stop peeing and overheat, even with a new impeller and low hours:
Here's what I'd check next:
-
Clogged telltale (pee hole) — Even with a new impeller, gunk or debris (especially if you’ve run in shallow or dirty water) can block the small telltale nozzle. Use a thin wire or compressed air to clear it gently.
-
Pinched or disconnected hose — A small hose runs from the water jacket to the telltale. If it's pinched, kinked, or partially off, you’ll lose the stream and cooling efficiency.
-
Thermostat stuck closed — After a few minutes, your motor should be warm enough for the thermostat to open. If it’s stuck shut, the engine will overheat. Pull it and test in boiling water to see if it opens.
-
Exhaust gasket leak or water tube misalignment — If the impeller housing or water tube wasn’t aligned properly during reassembly, water might not reach the powerhead. Also, an exhaust leak near the water pump can cause cavitation and reduce flow.
-
Water pump plate or gasket damaged — Sometimes, it's not just the impeller — a warped or pitted pump plate or a bad gasket can reduce water pressure and flow.
The manual often covers this issue, though. It has troubleshooting procedures and step-by-step repair instructions for problems related to peeing and overheating.
Of course, there's not much I could advise you for now, given the limited information. That said, you can always reach out to us with more details on your motor so we can assist you further ✌🏻
