The 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt came with a few different engine options, and the camshaft position sensor location varies depending on which engine you have.
Still, most Cobalts on the road use the 2.2L Ecotec (L61) engine, so assuming this is the model you have, the camshaft position sensor is located on the rear of the cylinder head, near the top of the engine on the passenger side. It sits just below the plastic engine cover and is held in place by a single bolt and a connector. This sensor monitors the position of the intake camshaft for proper ignition and fuel timing.
If your Cobalt has the 2.4L LE5 (typically found in SS models), the cam sensor is still mounted to the head, but it's closer to the driver’s side and integrated into the variable valve timing (VVT) housing.
The 2.0L Supercharged LSJ (used in the Cobalt SS Supercharged) is a bit different — this engine uses two camshaft sensors, one on each end of the cylinder head for intake and exhaust monitoring.
Assuming you drive either the 2.2L or the 2.4L (’cause the supercharged one is rare like unicorn poop), you'll find everything you need in the manual: exact location, wiring and connector diagrams, diagnostic testing procedures, removal and replacement instructions, and so on.
If you are lucky enough to drive the supercharged model, feel free to reach out to us directly — we’ll do our best to help track down the right manual for you.
