While the details may vary depending on your model year, replacing the 12V cigarette lighter socket in the backseat of your Land Cruiser Prado is a pretty straightforward job overall. Here’s how you can go about it:
-
Pop off the trim panel – The socket is usually mounted in a plastic panel or center console. Use a trim removal tool (or a flathead screwdriver wrapped in tape) to gently pry off the panel around the socket. Be careful not to crack anything.
-
Unplug the connector – Once the socket is exposed, you’ll see a power connector clipped to the back of it. Press the tab and pull it out.
-
Remove the old socket – The socket might have locking tabs or a twist-lock system holding it in place. Push the tabs inward and slide it out from the front, or twist it out depending on the design.
-
Install the new socket – Slide the new one into place from the front of the panel and make sure it locks securely. Reconnect the wiring harness.
-
Test it – Before snapping the panel back in, turn the ignition on and test the socket with a charger or voltmeter to make sure you’ve got power.
-
Reinstall the panel – Once it’s working, snap the trim piece back into place.
If you're unsure about the wiring, or if there’s no power at the socket to begin with, check the fuse labeled for the rear accessory or power outlet.
If you need a fuse diagram, that's where the service manual comes in handy. Perhaps let us know what Prado's model year you're working with so we can assist you further ✌🏻
