Fair question — but yes, what you’re seeing in the preview is a pretty accurate reflection of what’s inside.
This is the original OEM service manual produced for Mercury dealers back in 1984, and like most repair manuals of that era, the photographs are printed in black and white and can be a bit grainy by modern standards. Think old-school photocopy — totally readable, just not high-definition like a smartphone pic. 😅
That said, this is the exact same material factory techs were using at Mercury dealerships when these motors were new — so if it got the job done back then, it'll definitely still get the job done now.
We get that it’s not always ideal, but let’s be honest: Mercury’s not about to remaster their outboard repair manuals from 40 years ago anytime soon! Honestly, the fact this stuff is even still around is kind of a win in itself. 😄
