Indeed, the D2866 and D2868 engines are definitely in the same family, and they share a lot of the same design principles and systems, so the manual will still be very helpful for general procedures like cooling system service, fuel system layout, and basic maintenance.
That said, there are internal and electronic differences between the two (especially in displacement, turbocharging, and ECU controls), so if you're doing anything deeper (like timing adjustments, injector setup, or internal rebuilds) it's best to reference the exact manual for the D2868.
So in short: yes, it’ll help for a lot of things, but for precision work, you’ll want the right one for your engine.
