Hmm, while it's hard to troubleshoot such an issue without proper inspection, I can tell that’s usually a sign that your drain tubes are clogged. The NC Miata has a set of drainage channels behind the seats. Water from the soft top is supposed to run through those and out the bottom of the car. But if they get blocked (usually with leaves, dirt, or debris), the water backs up and spills into the cabin right onto the floor.
Easiest way to check: pull the seats forward, look down behind the seatbelt area, and you’ll find a rubber grommet or port where the drain begins. You can use a plastic tube or soft wire to gently clear it. Some people use a long zip tie or even compressed air (carefully).
In any case, if you want the most proper way to troubleshoot and fix this problem, this repair manual does walk through this, with diagrams showing drain tube routing and how to access them if you need to dig deeper.
Wish you good luck!
