The positive terminal on the 1995 Lexus SC400 goes on the engine side of the battery tray — not the fender side.
So if you're sitting in the driver's seat, the positive cable connects to the right side of the battery.
If you're standing in front of the car looking into the engine bay, the positive terminal will be on the left side of the battery — again, closer to the engine.
Long story short: positive faces the engine, negative faces the fender.
