Replacing the brakes on a Ford 2100 tractor isn’t too complicated if you’ve got some wrenching experience, but it’s not a quick job either. These tractors use wet disc brakes tucked inside the rear axle housing, so you’ll need to open it up to get to them.
Basically, you'll need to:
-
Jack up the rear end and safely support it (both wheels off the ground).
-
Remove the rear wheel on the side you're working on.
-
Pull the axle housing off to give you access to the brake pack. There are a few bolts and maybe a bit of wrestling depending on rust or grime.
-
Once you're in, you’ll see the brake discs and separator plates. These stack together like a clutch pack and can wear down or get glazed over.
-
Swap in the new discs and plates, clean everything up, and reverse the process to seal it all back up.
Fortunately, the manual gives you the step-by-step breakdown, proper order of reassembly, and torque specs so you don’t crack anything or leave bolts too loose. It’s definitely worth having on hand for this kind of job.
Good luck!
