Yeah, oftentimes, the passenger side top latch mechanism and the trunk lid not raising can absolutely be related. On the G6 convertible, the hardtop and trunk lid systems are tied together electronically, and everything has to be in just the right position for anything to move.
If the passenger side top latch isn’t fully locking or releasing, the system thinks the roof is out of sync, and it’ll block the trunk from raising to avoid damaging anything. Same goes the other way; if the trunk's latch sensors aren’t reading correctly, it can prevent the top from unlatching on that side.
There are a bunch of microswitches and position sensors all over the place (inside the latches, in the hydraulic system, and even in the trunk hinges) that all talk to the control module. One sensor out of whack can stop the whole show.
Fortunately, the service manual covers the full convertible top system and shows where each latch, motor, and switch is located. It also has a diagnostic section that walks you through what to check when parts of the system stop responding — super handy if you're trying to avoid a trip to the dealer.
Good luck!
