Replacing the climate control unit on a T30 X-Trail isn’t too bad, especially if you’re just talking about the control panel itself (the part with the knobs or digital display). The manual shows how to take apart the center dash trim and remove the control unit without too much hassle.
Start by disconnecting the battery, just to be safe. Then carefully pry off the center dash panel. There are a few clips and possibly a couple screws depending on your trim level. Once that’s out of the way, you’ll see the climate control unit held in with a few screws. Unplug the wiring connectors from the back and swap in the new unit. Easy as that.
That said, if you’re asking about replacing the actual heater core or A/C evaporator, that’s a whole different job. You’d need to pull the dashboard and HVAC box to get to those, and the manual walks through the full disassembly process, including draining the coolant, disconnecting A/C lines (after a proper evac), and splitting open the HVAC unit to reach the components.
Both are still DIY-able nonetheless, and luckily, every manufacturer's procedure on this task is laid out in the manual. Good luck!
