Replacing the A/C evaporator on a Kangoo isn’t exactly a quick job, since it’s buried deep inside the dashboard — but still DIYable nonetheless. The manual covers the full procedure, and you’ll definitely want to follow it because there’s a specific order to tearing things down without breaking clips or trim pieces.
Basically, you’ve got to remove the dashboard or at least loosen it enough to get the HVAC unit out. That means disconnecting the battery, pulling the center console, glove box, and then carefully working your way through the dash panels. Once that’s out of the way, you can unbolt the HVAC box and pull it forward enough to access the evaporator core.
Make sure you’ve had the A/C system professionally evacuated first. Don’t crack open any lines unless the system’s empty. Once inside the box, the evaporator slides out, and you’ll replace it along with any seals or expansion valve if needed. Reassembly’s just the reverse, but take your time (lots of hidden screws and electrical connectors to deal with).
Not exactly plug-and-play, I know. But the manual gives you all the manufacturer's torque specs, diagrams, and tips on reinstalling everything without ending up with rattles or an airbag light. So grab one and follow through — you should be alright!
