This is an easy job, don’t worry. On your 60HP 3-cylinder Merc/Mariner, you just need a few basic tools.
First, make sure the motor’s off and in neutral. Then either use a prop wrench or a regular socket (usually 3/4" or 15/16", depending on the nut size). Wedge a block of wood between the prop and the anti-ventilation plate to keep it from spinning while you loosen the nut.
Take off the prop nut, then remove the washer(s) and thrust hub behind it. The prop should slide right off the shaft — if it’s stuck from corrosion or fishing line, give it a gentle tap with a rubber mallet. Just don’t go yanking on it too hard.
Once it’s off, clean up the shaft, check for fishing line behind the prop, and apply a little marine grease before reinstalling. That’ll save you a headache next time.
In any case, the manual’s got the manufacturer's step-by-step instructions and diagrams if you want to double-check the parts order. Getting it would give you access to guides for plenty of other repairs too — a no-brainer if you like to tackle things on your own 😉
