Putting the 2.5 TDI V6 back together is totally doable, but it’s not a quick plug-and-play kind of job. These engines are tight, and Audi didn’t make things simple. The manual covers the full rebuild process: torque specs, bolt sequences, timing setup, all of it. You’ll definitely want to follow it step-by-step.
Start with the short block: crank, pistons, rods — all torqued to spec. Then heads go on with fresh gaskets and new head bolts (these are torque-to-yield, so don’t reuse the old ones). The manual will walk you through the angle torque procedure too.
The biggest pain point is the timing. This engine uses belt-driven cams with a separate pump timing belt, and all three need to be aligned just right. The cam locking tools are basically a must here, unless you really trust your marks and tensioning skills.
Once the timing’s set, it’s a matter of reinstalling the manifolds, fuel system, turbo plumbing, sensors, and wiring harness. Take your time, label things, and double-check the vacuum line routing. Be careful, it’s easy to mix those up.
It's nothing too crazy but also not that simple of a job. Luckily, if you’ve got the manual, you can find the engine assembly and timing belt sections. It’ll guide you through each part in the proper order.
Good luck!
