When a car shakes under acceleration, it’s usually something in the drivetrain, mounts, or wheels. Not that uncommon if you ask me.
First thing I’d check is the CV axles — if one is worn out or has a torn boot, it can cause a vibration, especially under load. Jack up the front wheels, give the axles a wiggle, and see if there’s any play. If one’s loose or making clicking noises on turns, it’s probably the culprit.
Next, take a look at the motor mounts. The Impala is known for having bad lower engine and transmission mounts, and if one’s torn, the engine moves too much when you hit the gas, making the whole car feel like it’s shaking. Put the car in gear, lightly press the gas while holding the brake, and see if the engine jumps — if it does, a mount is shot.
Also, check the tires and wheels. If a wheel is bent or a tire is out of balance, it might only be noticeable under acceleration, especially at certain speeds. If the shake smooths out once you let off the gas, it could be a balance issue.
Lastly, misfires or fuel delivery issues can sometimes feel like a vibration. If the check engine light is on or you’ve got hesitation along with the shake, you might want to scan for codes and check the spark plugs and coil packs.
In any case, if you need a troubleshooting chart for this, this manual will get you covered. It has every troubleshooting and diagnostic procedure provided by the manufacturer.
Good luck!
