On the 1991 F-150, the Neutral Safety Switch (NSS) or MLPS (Manual Lever Position Sensor) is mounted on the side of the transmission, right where the shift linkage connects.
If you’ve got an automatic transmission (E4OD or AOD), the switch is bolted to the driver’s side of the transmission, just behind the shift linkage.
For manual transmission trucks, the switch is usually mounted on the clutch pedal assembly inside the cab, since the clutch has to be fully pressed for the truck to start.
In any case, if you need any more information on the neutral safety switch, this manual will help you locate it and covers all the necessary procedures provided by the manufacturer. Good luck!
