The crankshaft position sensor (CKP) on your 2006 Volvo S40 is located at the back of the engine, near the transmission bell housing. You’ll find it just below the starter motor, bolted into the engine block.
It's tucked away, but not too bad to get to — you’ll need to remove the intake pipe for better access. It’s held in with a single bolt (usually a Torx or 10mm), and the electrical connector is clipped on pretty tight, so be gentle when unplugging it. If you're replacing it, I always recommend cleaning the mounting surface before installing the new one, just to make sure it reads properly.
In any case, if your car’s throwing a crank sensor code, struggling to start, or stalling randomly, this little sensor could be the culprit. Luckily, the manual won't just tell you how to locate it; it has the troubleshooting charts and repair procedures for any issue related to the crank sensor. A no-brainer if you ask me 😊
