If there’s one year of Corolla to be cautious about, it’s the 2009 model. This year had a lot of complaints about excessive oil consumption in the 1.8L engine. Some owners found themselves constantly topping off oil, and if it wasn’t caught early, it could lead to serious engine damage.
Another year to keep an eye on is 2003, which had some early transmission issues, though it’s less common than the oil consumption problem. That said, even these “problem” years can still be solid cars if they’ve been well-maintained or had known issues repaired. Just do your homework and get a detailed inspection before buying!
