Mitsubishi is not fully owned by Nissan, but Nissan holds a significant stake in the company. Back in 2016, Nissan acquired a 34% equity stake in Mitsubishi Motors, making it the largest shareholder. This gave Nissan a major say in Mitsubishi’s operations and brought Mitsubishi into the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance.
The alliance focuses on sharing technologies, platforms, and resources to improve efficiency and competitiveness across the brands. So, while Mitsubishi remains its own brand, it operates closely alongside Nissan and Renault under this global partnership.
