Toyota makes some of the most reliable cars on the planet, no doubt about that. But if I had to point out a weakness, it would probably be their lack of excitement in certain models. Don’t get me wrong, they’re fantastic when it comes to dependability and practicality, but let’s face it—not everyone gets thrilled about driving a Corolla or a Camry. Some people just want more personality in their ride, you know?
Another issue I’ve seen over the years is their reluctance to innovate quickly. Toyota tends to play it safe with their designs and features, so they sometimes lag behind competitors in adopting new tech. For example, while other manufacturers were diving headfirst into EVs and more dynamic infotainment systems, Toyota was a bit late to the party. That said, when they do finally roll something out, it’s usually rock-solid.
One more thing I’ve noticed is that repair costs can sometimes creep up, especially with hybrid systems or less common parts. They’re not outrageous, but it’s something to think about if you’re planning to own one long-term. That’s where a good service manual really comes in handy—it can save you a ton by letting you handle basic repairs yourself instead of heading to the dealership every time something pops up.
