To balance a Cub Cadet mower deck, follow these steps to ensure an even cut and reduce wear:
-
Prepare the Mower:
- Place the mower on a flat, level surface.
- Turn off the engine, remove the ignition key, and disconnect the spark plug for safety.
-
Raise the Deck:
- Use the deck lift lever to raise the mower deck to a middle position, providing easy access.
-
Measure Blade Height:
- Rotate the blade closest to the discharge chute so it is parallel to the mower.
- Measure the height of the blade tip on one side from the ground using a ruler or tape measure.
-
Adjust Front-to-Back Level:
- Loosen the hex lock nut on the deck hanger rod near the front of the mower.
- Adjust the inner hex nut to raise or lower the front of the deck until the blade tip height matches the rear.
-
Level Side-to-Side:
- Rotate the blades perpendicular to the mower and measure the blade tip height on both sides.
- If the heights differ, adjust the deck by loosening the hex bolt on the left hanger bracket and raising or lowering the deck until both sides are level.
-
Secure the Deck:
- Tighten all lock nuts and bolts to ensure the deck stays in place.
-
Reconnect the Spark Plug:
- Reattach the spark plug ignition wire and confirm that the mower deck is ready for operation.
Regularly balancing the deck ensures a clean, uniform cut and extends the life of your mower.
