To reset the inspection light on a BMW E30, follow these steps:
-
Locate the Diagnostic Plug:
- Open the hood and find the round diagnostic connector near the intake manifold. It will have a cap with "Pacman" symbols.
-
Prepare a Jumper Wire:
- Use a small piece of wire or a paperclip with both ends stripped to create a connection.
-
Identify the Pins:
- On the diagnostic connector, locate Pin 7 (Service Reset) and Pin 19 (Ground).
-
Connect the Pins:
- Insert one end of the jumper wire or paperclip into Pin 7 and the other end into Pin 19.
-
Turn the Ignition Key:
- Turn the key to the accessory position (do not start the engine).
-
Wait for Reset:
- Hold the connection for about 5-10 seconds. For a full inspection reset, hold it for approximately 10-12 seconds.
-
Remove the Jumper:
- After the specified time, remove the jumper wire or paperclip.
-
Turn Off the Ignition:
- Switch off the ignition and remove the key.
-
Verify the Reset:
- Turn the ignition back on to check if the inspection light has been reset.
-
Replace the Diagnostic Cap:
- Secure the diagnostic connector cap back in place, aligning the symbols.
If the light doesn’t reset, the issue could be with the SI board or its batteries, which might need replacement.
