Evinrude outboard motors were discontinued in 2020 when their parent company, BRP (Bombardier Recreational Products), made the decision to stop production.
The company cited a shift in market demand toward four-stroke engines and the growing popularity of more eco-friendly technologies as major reasons for discontinuing the brand. Evinrude, known for its two-stroke engines, struggled to compete with the advancements and increased demand for four-stroke outboards, which are generally quieter, more fuel-efficient, and meet stricter emissions standards.
Additionally, the COVID-19 pandemic further impacted the market, leading BRP to focus on its other product lines and enter into a partnership with Mercury Marine to supply outboards for BRP boats. While Evinrude no longer manufactures new engines, parts and service support remain available for existing Evinrude engines, allowing owners to continue maintaining their outboards.
