Evinrude Outboard Motors ceased production in May 2020. The decision was made by their parent company, Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP), due to the significant impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on their business. BRP decided to shift its focus towards its boat brands and other marine products, ending the production of Evinrude's E-TEC and E-TEC G2 outboard engines.
Evinrude's history dates back to 1907 when it was founded by Ole Evinrude in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The brand became known for its two-stroke outboard engines, which were innovative and popular among boating enthusiasts. However, despite efforts to innovate with cleaner technologies, the rise and dominance of four-stroke engines in the market posed significant challenges for Evinrude. BRP's strategic shift also included an agreement with Mercury Marine to support boat packages and continue supplying outboard engines to BRP's boat brands
