Mariner outboards have an interesting history that spans several decades. Initially introduced in Australia in 1974 and later in the U.S. and Europe, Mariner outboards were originally Yamaha engines marketed under the Mariner brand by Mercury Marine. By the early 1980s, Mariner and Mercury outboards became mechanically identical, differing only in paint and decals.
In 1999, Mercury Marine decided to end Mariner sales in the U.S. due to cost savings in manufacturing and marketing a single outboard brand. However, Mariner outboards continued to be sold internationally where they remained popular.
So, while Mariner outboards are no longer available in the U.S., they are still used and appreciated in other parts of the world.
