You can find the model number of your Mercury outboard motor on the identification tag, which is usually located on the side of the swivel bracket or transom bracket. If the tag is not visible or legible, the model number may also be stamped on a metal plug set in the powerhead. This plug is visible once the top cowling of the engine is removed.
