BMW's Remote Software Upgrades provide new features, functional improvements, and quality enhancements without any extra cost for vehicles equipped with BMW Operating System 7 and 8. These updates can be downloaded via the My BMW App or the SIM card installed in the vehicle and then installed over-the-air (OTA).
Eligibility and Cost- Free Updates: For vehicles with BMW Operating System 7 and 8, there is no additional charge for Remote Software Upgrades. This covers over 20 BMW models.
- Installation: Updates are downloaded and installed using the My BMW App or the vehicle's SIM card, making the process convenient and cost-free.
While most OTA updates are complimentary, certain specific software updates or feature unlocks might incur a cost. Historically, there have been premium charges for particular updates or feature unlocks, but these are exceptions rather than the norm.
