There's no specific recommended procedure when it comes to welding and electronics since it really depends on where the welding actually occurs. Still, I would for sure unplug the battery and the main control modules, as well as ensure to ground the welder as close as possible to where you are welding.
In short, unplug what can be unplugged without stripping off the whole thing and keep your ground close — I never had a problem when following these general rules.
