Unfortunately, it's incredibly hard to troubleshoot issues online without being able to run tests of any sort — and when it comes to transmission, an incredibly wide range of problems could cause the transmission to stick in one gear, from a low transmission fluid to faulty sensors, worn-out components, and electrical issues.
Luckily, you should be able to find the information you are after and the corresponding troubleshooting/replacement procedure in this 2001-2005 Nissan Primera (P12) Workshop Manual.
