All Kohler engines, including the Aegis series, are made in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, but parts are mainly produced in China.
Kohler opened the Hattiesburg factory in 1998, and today it is the only one in the US, with around 350 employees. They also had a manufacturing plant in Wisconsin where generators and bathroom fixtures were made, but after its closing in 2019, all production was moved to Hattiesburg. Besides the US plant, Kohler also owns 10 plants in China, making bathtubs, AC generators, tiles, and engine parts.
That said, the fact that parts are made in China doesn't necessarily mean they are low quality. Indeed, Kohler has been in the engine-making business since 1948 — let's just say it knows what it's doing. Moreover, Kohler took the quality control to such a high level in recent years that its defect rate in the first year of operation is now lower than 0.5% — that's only 1 in 2000 engines requiring repairs under warranty in the first year.
Also worth mentioning, considering that the vast majority of engines sold by Kohler are smaller models like the Aegis, this statistic is primarily owed to them. Besides the liquid-cooled Aegis, now retired, Kohler makes all kinds of motors for any application imaginable. Most notable types include alternative fuel engines, direct injection diesel, and marine engines. The marine engines are mainly made for Lombardini Marine, which Kohler purchased in 2007.
