The primary difference between the manual types is where they are coming from and the extent of information they contain. The "factory" manual would refer to OEM or ‘manufacturer-sourced” manuals (the same ones that dealer technicians use to “service and repair” your vehicle), while non-factory repair manuals are created by aftermarket publishers.
Unsurprisingly, manuals published by the manufacturer itself tend to have better quality content and may contain more detailed information — but all in all, they are mostly the same, simply two different editions of the same manual, from two different publishers.
