Unfortunately, it's incredibly hard to troubleshoot issues online without being able to run tests of any sort and with so few details. To be able to suggest a couple of possible fixes, we would need more information. For instance, you mention that the "battery flashes"? I would assume you mean the battery warning light in the dashboard? And what happens when turning the key on? Is the dashboard light test performed normally? Is there any current? Does the starter crank or not at all?
The real problem here is that a car battery hooked backward can cause a wide range of problems, from burning fuses and relays to more extensive damages to electronic components and control modules.
Luckily, you should be able to find all the troubleshooting/replacement procedures you'll need to find the problem and fix it in this 2005-2008 Polaris Sportsman 450 Service & Repair Manual.
