Europe to get Ford’s new flagship electric crossover, expected to beat even some supercars to 60mph.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ford<\/a> launched a new variant of their all-electric crossover for the European market. The Mustang Mach-E GT will rival some strong offerings, including the Jaguar I-Pace, Mercedes-Benz EQC, Audi<\/a> E-Tron, and Polestar<\/a> 2.<\/p>\n

Add the Tesla<\/a> Model Y and Hyundai<\/a> Kona EV to the mix, and it becomes apparent that the average European buyer has a plethora of options to choose from. So, one begs the question, what makes the Mach-E GT stand out from its rivals?<\/p>\n

Producing 459bhp and 829Nm of torque certainly helps Ford’s case. The motors can launch the Mach-E to 62mph (100 km\/h) in just 3.7seconds. That’s on par with Tesla’s Model Y, the quickest crossover on the market. However, I should mention, though, that the method Ford used was a 1-ft rolling start. But, still…<\/p>\n

Other bells and whistles include adaptive MagneRide suspension, which should help with handling and comfort. Furthermore, the Mustang Mach-E<\/a> GT comes equipped with 20-inch alloys, red brake calipers, and more choices of exterior paint.<\/p>\n

Inside, the electric<\/a> crossover comes with a 15.5-inch full HD touch display smart infotainment system, just like in a Tesla. You can also find sports seats and suede inserts for the steering wheel, exclusively available in the GT trim.<\/p>\n

Scheduled to hit European shores in late 2021, the new Mach-E GT comes with a dual motor powertrain setup. The system varies the application of torque between the front and rear axles based on grip conditions. Thus, the driver gets more responsive handling and stronger acceleration off the line.<\/p>\n

Moreover, the GT variant comes with an extended-range battery pack of 98.8 kWh (88 kWh usable). The larger battery will undoubtedly add to the price, but it also helps with range. Ford targets a WLTP range of up to 500 km or 310 miles.<\/p>\n

Besides, the Mach-E GT also comes with something Ford calls “Intelligent Range.” This system “more accurately predicts” how many miles drivers have left by monitoring driving behavior, weather forecasts, and crowdsourced data from other Mustang Mach-E vehicles.<\/p>\n

Although Ford announced no prices for the GT trim yet, expect a premium over the regular Mach-E models.<\/p>\n

At the same event, Ford also announced that all Mach-E owners would get access to the FordPass charging network for five years and one-year free access to the Ionity network of fast chargers.<\/p>\n

Ford estimates that a 150-kWh fast charger can add up to 73-miles in just 10 minutes. However, that number is only for the base rear-wheel-drive extended-range version.<\/p>\n

All in all, the Mustang Mach-E GT looks pretty solid on paper. Now all that remains is to see how it holds up in comparison to its rivals.<\/p>\n
