That\u2019s right, the carmaker known for its Raptor trucks and SUVs is considering taking things to the next level with a standalone off-road supercar. And if Ford CEO Jim Farley\u2019s latest comments are anything to go by, this isn\u2019t just some vague idea\u2014it\u2019s something the company is actively exploring.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to Top Gear, Farley hinted at the possibility of an all-new performance vehicle that would be completely different from anything <a href=\"https:\/\/www.emanualonline.com\/cars\/ford.htm\">Ford<\/a> currently offers. \u201cWe\u2019re in the middle of creating something, so we don\u2019t have all the answers yet, but the question is: should Ford make an <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.emanualonline.com\/blog\/category\/articles\/off-road-2\" title=\"Off-Roading\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"291\">off-road<\/a> supercar? Not a version of a car, a standalone supercar,\u201d Farley said. While that doesn\u2019t confirm anything, it certainly suggests that Ford is looking beyond just trucks and SUVs for its next big off-road machine.<\/p>\n<p>Farley has made it clear in the past that he wants Ford to be the \u201cPorsche of off-road,\u201d meaning the manufacturer wants to dominate the high-performance off-road market the way Porsche does on pavement. We love that we have an <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.emanualonline.com\/blog\/ford-f-150-electric-pickup-might-have-a-tiny-range-extender-gas-engine\" title=\"Ford F-150 Electric Pickup Might Have a Tiny Range-Extender Gas Engine\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"290\">F-150<\/a>, Bronco, and Ranger Raptor, but we can do more.\u201d He pointed to the Raptor T1+ Dakar race truck as an example of how far Ford can push its off-road technology.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, this idea of an off-road supercar could be connected to rumors about a Baja-inspired Mustang concept. Last year, reports surfaced that Ford had shown dealers a lifted, off-road-ready Mustang with big tires. While there\u2019s no confirmation that the Mustang will be the foundation for Ford\u2019s off-road supercar, it\u2019s possible that the two projects are related in some way.<\/p>\n<p>So what would an off-road supercar from Ford look like? That\u2019s the big question. Would it be something like the <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.emanualonline.com\/blog\/why-lamborghini-sacrificed-v10-for-the-hybrid-era\" title=\"Why Lamborghini Sacrificed the Iconic V10 for the Hybrid Era\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"289\">Lamborghini<\/a> Hurac\u00e1n Sterrato and Porsche 911 Dakar\u2014essentially a road-going sports car with off-road capability? Or would it be something completely different, more in line with Ford\u2019s history in off-road racing? Given the its success at Dakar, a purpose-built, high-performance off-roader with race-proven tech seems like a real possibility.<\/p>\n<p>Ford hasn\u2019t confirmed any production plans yet, and it\u2019s unclear whether this off-road supercar will ever make it to the streets (or the trails). But the fact that top executives are openly discussing it means it\u2019s something they\u2019re seriously considering.
