Volvo\u2019s next-generation electric semi is set to change the game for long-haul transport, boasting an impressive 373 miles on a single charge\u2014double the range of its predecessor.<\/p>\n

Volvo Trucks is making big strides in the electric truck world with its next-generation FH Electric, which is set to launch in late 2025. This new electric semi-truck will have an impressive range of up to 373 miles (600 kilometers) on a single charge\u2014double the range of the current model, which offers around 186 miles. This extended range is made possible by Volvo\u2019s innovative e-axle driveline technology, which creates more space for extra batteries while also making the electric motors smaller and more efficient.<\/p>\n

The current FH Electric truck, already in service, comes with six battery packs that provide up to 540 kWh of power. While this is plenty for shorter routes, Volvo\u2019s latest model is aimed at longer journeys and inter-regional routes, allowing transport companies to operate for a full day without needing to stop for a recharge. The new FH Electric will feature eight batteries, further boosting its range, and it will likely be a game-changer for companies looking to reduce emissions without compromising on long-distance capabilities.<\/p>\n

Charging times are always a concern with electric trucks, but Volvo\u2019s current model can fully recharge in about two and a half hours at a maximum rate of 250 kW. With the added range and advanced battery management systems, the new version is expected to be even more efficient. The final battery specs haven\u2019t been revealed yet, but Volvo is promising significant improvements when the truck goes on sale in 2025.<\/p>\n

Volvo Trucks has already delivered more than 3,800 electric trucks to customers in 46 countries since 2019, and the company has no plans to slow down. In fact, Volvo<\/a> has been leading the charge in electric trucking, with their trucks collectively covering more than 50 million miles on the road. This new model will join Volvo\u2019s existing lineup of eight electric trucks, further pushing the company toward its goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2040.<\/p>\n

Of course, Volvo isn\u2019t the only player in the electric truck game. Tesla is also competing in the market with its Semi, offering ranges of 300 or 500 miles depending on the battery configuration. However, Tesla has produced fewer than 150 units so far, compared to Volvo\u2019s 3,800 electric trucks. Other companies, such as Daimler, are also working on long-haul electric semis, with some focusing on autonomous technology for trucks expected to hit the road by 2027.<\/p>\n

Volvo isn\u2019t just betting on battery-electric trucks, either. The company is also developing fuel-cell electric trucks and vehicles that run on green hydrogen, biogas, and hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO). These alternative fuel sources are part of Volvo\u2019s broader strategy to offer more sustainable options for heavy-duty transport and reduce the overall carbon footprint of the industry.<\/p>\n

The launch of the next-generation FH Electric marks another step forward in Volvo\u2019s mission to electrify the trucking sector and provide efficient, zero-emission vehicles that can handle long-distance routes. With the ability to cover 373 miles on a single charge, this new electric truck will be a strong competitor in the market and a practical option for transport companies looking to go green without sacrificing performance.<\/p>\n
