The Prancing Horse’s hybrid SF90 galloped its way to the top of Car and Driver’s acceleration charts and beat a long-standing record in the process!<\/p>\n
Before the run, the car was set up in Qualifying mode to harness the full potential of its hybrid powertrain. It took its place at the start line with a dab of brakes, with the engine kept at its sweet spot of 3,500 rpm, and the DCT engaged in manual mode. As the lights turned green, the brakes were lifted and all hell broke loose.<\/p>\n
And in less time it takes to say “Ferrari”, the SF90 shattered Car and Driver<\/em>‘s 0-60 mph record. Thanks to the relentless hybrid power surge, the SF90 Stradale broke the 30 mph and 60 mph marks in 0.9 s and 2.0 s respectively, effectively breaking the Porsche 918’s 2.1 s second run achieved 7 years earlier. The SF90 also beat the Porsche at the quarter-mile, clocking the run in 9.5 seconds @ 148 mph, but the Bugatti Chiron remains Car and Driver<\/em>‘s quarter-mile king, running the same spring in only 9.4 seconds.<\/p>\n It is interesting to note that both the 918 and Chiron are top-of-the-line hypercars, while the SF90 Stradale slots between the F8 Tributo and LaFerrari. The only explanation for this feat comes down to the SF90 Stradale’s all-wheel-drive setup driven by three electric motors paired with a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 producing a total of 986 hp, a significant difference compared to the 887 hp Porsche 918, and all that for more than $100k less!<\/p>\n
