id=\"1076-1077\">generation<\/span>\u00a0combined cutting edge performance engines with razor-sharp handling characteristics,\u00a0<span id=\"1296-1297-224\">turning<\/span>\u00a0a\u00a0<span id=\"97\" class=\"s-rg-t\">daily-driver<\/span>\u00a0family\u00a0<span id=\"177\">car<\/span>\u00a0into a race bread driving machine.<\/span><span id=\"p1450\">\u00a0This is the super sedan that turned the car world on its head and made BMW the German sports car masters.<\/span><span id=\"p3\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"p3\">While its\u00a0<span id=\"203\">little brother<\/span>, the legendary M3, gets all the racing credits, this big\u00a0<span id=\"239\">fast<\/span>\u00a0sedan proved to the\u00a0<span id=\"1124-1125\">world<\/span>\u00a0that you do not need\u00a0<span id=\"204\">a little<\/span>\u00a0coupe to have fun at the\u00a0<span id=\"1126-1127\">track<\/span>\u00a0or on the\u00a0<span id=\"240\">twisty<\/span> alpine roads.<\/span><span id=\"p4\">\u00a0No\u00a0<span id=\"1153-1154\">matter<\/span>\u00a0which\u00a0<span id=\"1155-1156\">generation<\/span>\u00a0we talk about, the\u00a0<span id=\"1157-1158\">formula<\/span>\u00a0for\u00a0an\u00a0<span id=\"118-1159-1160\" class=\"s-rg-t\">M5<\/span><span id=\"1159-1160\">\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"180-1159-1160\">car<\/span> is practically the same&#8230;<\/span><span id=\"p5\">\u00a0<span id=\"1371-1372\">Take<\/span>\u00a0a\u00a0<span id=\"216\">production<\/span>\u00a0executive saloon and\u00a0<span id=\"1373-1374\">put<\/span>\u00a0the strongest\u00a0<span id=\"217\">production<\/span>\u00a0engine in\u00a0<span id=\"187\">it<\/span>.<\/span><span id=\"p6\">\u00a0As a powerful car needs to stop\u00a0<span id=\"261\">eventually<\/span>,\u00a0<span id=\"1388-1389-262\">fit<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"188\">it<\/span>\u00a0with\u00a0<span id=\"260\">stronger<\/span>\u00a0brakes.<\/span><span id=\"p7\">\u00a0<span id=\"1224-1225\">Firm<\/span>\u00a0up the\u00a0<span id=\"1226\">suspension<\/span>\u00a0to\u00a0<span id=\"189-1406-1407\">make it<\/span> go around the corners better.<\/span><span id=\"p8\">\u00a0On\u00a0<span id=\"1252-1253\">top<\/span>\u00a0of\u00a0<span id=\"205\">all that<\/span>,\u00a0<span id=\"1416-1417-273\">fit<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"190\">it<\/span>\u00a0with\u00a0<span id=\"206\">all<\/span> the latest available luxuries and comfort features.<\/span><span id=\"p9\">\u00a0Blend\u00a0<span id=\"207\">all<\/span>\u00a0these ingredients in the\u00a0<span id=\"280\">right<\/span> way, and you will end up with a balanced high-performance <span id=\"181\">car<\/span>\u00a0that\u00a0<span id=\"1436\">combines<\/span> speed and <span id=\"1277-1278\">handling<\/span>\u00a0with\u00a0<span id=\"1279-1280\">comfort<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<span id=\"1281-1282\">luxury<\/span>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"p10\">Although other cars do\u00a0this as well, not many of them can\u00a0<span id=\"1302-1303\">carry<\/span>\u00a0up to five\u00a0<span id=\"1078-1079\">persons<\/span>\u00a0with\u00a0<span id=\"1080-1081\">luggage<\/span>.<\/span><span id=\"p11\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"p12\"><span id=\"98\" class=\"s-rg-t\">E28 M5<\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span id=\"p13\">The <span id=\"1082-1083\">story<\/span>\u00a0of the\u00a0<span id=\"99\" class=\"s-rg-t\">M5<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"226\">actually<\/span>\u00a0begins with another M\u00a0<span id=\"183\">car<\/span>.<\/span><span id=\"p14\">\u00a0<span id=\"227\">In<\/span> the &#8217;70s, BMW jointed with <span id=\"100\" class=\"s-rg-t\">Dallara<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<span id=\"101\" class=\"s-rg-t\">Lamborgini<\/span>\u00a0to\u00a0<span id=\"1304-1305\">develop<\/span>\u00a0a\u00a0<span id=\"171\">mid-engine<\/span>\u00a0supercar, aimed to defeat Porsche at Le Mans.<\/span><span id=\"p1444\">\u00a0Although the rules changes and a series of other problems practically turned this project into a disaster, the BMW did end up with a great engine out of the whole experiment.<\/span><span id=\"p16\">\u00a0This incredible racing\u00a0<span id=\"173\">engine<\/span>\u00a0had not only great performance, but it was also surprisingly reliable.<\/span><span id=\"p17\">\u00a0At that\u00a0<span id=\"1092-1093\">time<\/span>,\u00a0<span id=\"161\">BMW<\/span>\u00a0already had a\u00a0<span id=\"285\">sporty<\/span>\u00a0saloon, called the\u00a0<span id=\"103\" class=\"s-rg-t\">535i<\/span>, but that didn&#8217;t have an\u00a0<span id=\"174\">engine<\/span>\u00a0design by\u00a0<span id=\"162\">BMWs<\/span>\u00a0motorsport.<\/span><span id=\"p18\">\u00a0And that was about to\u00a0<span id=\"1306-1307\">change<\/span>.<\/span><span id=\"p19\">\u00a0The\u00a0<span id=\"104\" class=\"s-rg-t\">M88<\/span>\u00a0straight-6 engine made 273 HP and one incredible sound.<\/span><span id=\"p20\">\u00a0And since\u00a0<span id=\"191\">it<\/span>\u00a0was\u00a0<span id=\"1314-1315\">designed<\/span>\u00a0for the harsh conditions of endurance racing\u00a0<span id=\"192\">it<\/span>\u00a0was pretty much overqualified for street duty.<\/span><span id=\"p21\">\u00a0<span id=\"193\">It<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"229\">also<\/span>\u00a0had individual\u00a0<span id=\"197\">throttle<\/span>\u00a0bodies which not only that give an instant\u00a0<span id=\"198\">throttle<\/span>\u00a0response, but sound awesome as well.<\/span><span id=\"p22\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"p22\">BMW shoved this engine under the\u00a0<span id=\"1096\">hood<\/span>\u00a0of\u00a0<span id=\"106\" class=\"s-rg-t\">E28<\/span>\u00a05 series sedan, tweaked the\u00a0<span id=\"1097-1098\">brakes<\/span>\u00a0and the\u00a0<span id=\"1099\">suspension<\/span>, and the <span id=\"1100-1101\">legend<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"1316-1317\">was<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"1318-1319\">born<\/span>.<\/span><span id=\"p23\">\u00a0<span id=\"1320-1321-230\">Making<\/span>\u00a0its\u00a0<span id=\"1102\">debut<\/span> at the 1985 Amsterdam Motor Show, it was an instant hit.<\/span><span id=\"p24\">\u00a0When\u00a0<span id=\"1103-1104\">critics<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<span id=\"1105-1106\">owners<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"1322-1323-231\">got<\/span>\u00a0their\u00a0<span id=\"1107-1108\">hands<\/span>\u00a0on the finished\u00a0product, they\u00a0were blown away by the\u00a0<span id=\"108\" class=\"s-rg-t\">M5<\/span>\u2019s razor-sharp handling and epic engine.<\/span><span id=\"p25\">\u00a0A big, comfortable sedan that could go head-to-head with the Ferrari 308\u00a0<span id=\"1324-1325\">was<\/span>\u00a0like nothing\u00a0<span id=\"234\">done<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"232\">ever<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"233\">before<\/span>.<\/span><span id=\"p26\">\u00a0It was unstoppable for\u00a0<span id=\"1109\">fun<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<span id=\"1110-1111\">performance<\/span>\u00a0in an inconspicuous package.<\/span><span id=\"p27\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"p27\">What additionally set the first\u00a0<span id=\"109\" class=\"s-rg-t\">M5<\/span>\u00a0apart from other sedans and\u00a0<span id=\"1112\">sports cars<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"1326-1327-235\">was<\/span>\u00a0the\u00a0<span id=\"1113-1114\">fact<\/span>\u00a0that it was completely hand-built.<\/span><span id=\"p28\">\u00a0<span id=\"199-1115-1116\">Bodies<\/span>\u00a0were\u00a0<span id=\"1328\">shipped<\/span>\u00a0from the main\u00a0<span id=\"163\">BMW<\/span>\u00a0factory to the\u00a0<span id=\"164\">BMW<\/span>\u00a0Motorsport divisions facility, where\u00a0<span id=\"236\">highly<\/span>\u00a0trained technicians\u00a0<span id=\"1329-1330\">joined<\/span>\u00a0the\u00a0<span id=\"200-1117-1118\">body<\/span>\u00a0with their own\u00a0<span id=\"1331\">tuned<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"1119\">chassis<\/span>\u00a0and drivetrain.<\/span><span id=\"p29\">\u00a0The first\u00a0<span id=\"1120-1121\">version<\/span>\u00a0of\u00a0<span id=\"110-165\" class=\"s-rg-t\">M5<\/span>\u00a0was\u00a0<span id=\"237\">only<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"238\">made for<\/span>\u00a03\u00a0<span id=\"1122-1123\">years<\/span>\u00a0and since\u00a0they were hand-built, a little over 2.000 of them were\u00a0<span id=\"1332-1333\">sold<\/span>.<\/span><span class=\"s-rg-t\">M5<\/span><span id=\"1128-1129\">\u00a0name<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"1334-1335\">continued<\/span>\u00a0with the\u00a0<span id=\"1130-1131\">release<\/span>\u00a0of the\u00a0<span id=\"241\">new<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"114\" class=\"s-rg-t\">E34<\/span>\u00a0generation 5-series.<\/span><span id=\"p33\">\u00a0The new\u00a0<span id=\"115-167\" class=\"s-rg-t\">M5<\/span>\u00a0which\u00a0<span id=\"1336-1337\">appeared<\/span>\u00a0in 1989, was still hand-assembled at BMW Motorsport headquarters.<\/span><span id=\"p34\">\u00a0The\u00a0<span id=\"242\">overall<\/span>\u00a0concept was\u00a0<span id=\"243\">almost<\/span>\u00a0identical to the previous car, although significantly improved and modernized in every\u00a0<span id=\"1132-1133\">aspect<\/span>.<\/span><span id=\"p35\">\u00a0The\u00a0<span id=\"175-1134-1135\">engine<\/span>, which\u00a0<span id=\"1338-1339-246\">was<\/span>\u00a0an\u00a0<span id=\"1136-1137\">evolution<\/span>\u00a0of an\u00a0<span id=\"244\">original<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"116\" class=\"s-rg-t\">M88<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"176\">engine<\/span>, boasted more\u00a0<span id=\"1138-1139\">power<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<span id=\"1140\">torque<\/span>, with\u00a0<span id=\"1141-1142\">figures<\/span>\u00a0going up to 335 HP and 295 lb-ft in\u00a0<span id=\"245\">final<\/span>\u00a0years.<\/span><span id=\"p36\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"p36\">Supplement that with lower ride height, firmer suspension and bigger brakes, you have basically everything\u00a0<span id=\"1342-1343-247\">needed<\/span>\u00a0to\u00a0<span id=\"1340-1341\">make it<\/span>\u00a0an M creation.<\/span><span id=\"p37\">\u00a0<span id=\"184\">This<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"1344-1345\">is<\/span>\u00a0the first\u00a0<span id=\"1143-1144\">car<\/span>\u00a0of\u00a0<span id=\"185\">this<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"1145-1146\">series<\/span>\u00a0that\u00a0<span id=\"1346-1347\">used<\/span>\u00a0electronic damper control.<\/span><span id=\"p38\">\u00a0<span id=\"186\">This<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"1348-1349\">allowed<\/span>\u00a0a\u00a0<span id=\"1147-1148\">change<\/span>\u00a0in ride stiffness from comfortable to\u00a0<span id=\"286\">sporty<\/span>\u00a0with a\u00a0<span id=\"1149-1150\">click<\/span>\u00a0of a\u00a0<span id=\"1151-1152\">button<\/span>.<\/span><span id=\"p39\">\u00a0Later models even\u00a0<span id=\"211\">came with<\/span>\u00a0a six-speed gearbox.<\/span><span id=\"p40\">\u00a0And at\u00a0<span id=\"1161-1162\">top<\/span>\u00a0of all that,\u00a0<span id=\"194\">it<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"212-1350-1351\">came<\/span>\u00a0as a\u00a0<span id=\"1163-1164\">wagon<\/span>.<\/span><span id=\"p41\">\u00a0<span id=\"195\">It<\/span> was the same curve <span id=\"1352-1353\">bending<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<span id=\"1165-1166\">tail<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"1354\">sliding<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"119-1167-1168\" class=\"s-rg-t\">beast<\/span>\u00a0that everyone had\u00a0<span id=\"213\">come to<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"1355-1356\">know<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<span id=\"1357-1358-248\">love<\/span>, but now\u00a0<span id=\"196\">it<\/span>\u00a0was even more practical.<\/span><span id=\"p42\">\u00a0In the\u00a0<span id=\"1169-1170\">period<\/span>\u00a0between 1989 and 1995, with 12.254\u00a0<span id=\"120\" class=\"s-rg-t\">M5<\/span>\u00a0in both forms were\u00a0<span next generation, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.emanualonline.com\/blog\/bmw-e39-m5\">the E39 M5 model<\/a>,\u00a0 <span id=\"1361-1362-250\">brought<\/span>\u00a0a\u00a0<span id=\"249\">big<\/span>\u00a0change, as\u00a0<span id=\"251\">come<\/span>\u00a0as the\u00a0<span id=\"1171-1172\">demand<\/span>\u00a0for the\u00a0<span id=\"122\" class=\"s-rg-t\">m5<\/span>\u00a0was so large<span id=\"123\" class=\"s-bl-t\">, that<\/span>\u00a0BMW couldn&#8217;t afford to stifle production numbers by\u00a0<span id=\"1363-1364-252\">having<\/span>\u00a0them assembled by\u00a0<span id=\"1173-1174\">hand<\/span>.<\/span><span id=\"p46\">\u00a0The new\u00a0<span id=\"125-168\" class=\"s-rg-t\">M5<\/span>\u00a0would be built next to their\u00a0<span id=\"253\">normal<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"126\" class=\"s-or-t\">5<\/span>\u00a0Series\u00a0<span id=\"287\">siblings<\/span>.<\/span><span id=\"p47\">\u00a0Luckily, although\u00a0<span id=\"1175-1176\">now<\/span>\u00a0being\u00a0<span id=\"1365-1366\">produced<\/span>\u00a0on a \u2018mass scale\u2019, the new\u00a0<span id=\"127-169\" class=\"s-rg-t\">M5<\/span>\u00a0did not lose any of its performance focus.<\/span><span id=\"p48\">\u00a0Beneath the\u00a0<span id=\"1177\">hood<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"1367-1368-256\">was<\/span>\u00a0the\u00a0<span id=\"254\">biggest<\/span>\u00a0departure from the\u00a0<span id=\"255\">original<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"128-170\" class=\"s-rg-t\">M5<\/span>\u00a0formula &#8211; a 4.9-liter aluminum block\u00a0<span id=\"129\" class=\"s-rg-t\">v8<\/span>.<\/span><span id=\"p49\">\u00a0Still, with dual air intakes and electronically controlled individual throttle bodies, this\u00a0<span id=\"1369-1370\">was<\/span>\u00a0not an ordinary V8.<\/span><span id=\"p50\">\u00a0It was\u00a0<span id=\"257\">also<\/span>\u00a0the first\u00a0<span id=\"130-1178-1179\" class=\"s-rg-t\">M5<\/span><span id=\"1178-1179\">\u00a0engine<\/span>\u00a0that\u00a0<span id=\"1375-1376\">used<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"131\" class=\"s-rg-t\">double-VANOS<\/span>.<\/span><span id=\"p51\">\u00a0This variable valve\u00a0timing system\u00a0<span id=\"1377-1378\">gave<\/span>\u00a0a\u00a0<span id=\"258\">much<\/span>\u00a0wider torque range, making the car more drivable.<\/span><span id=\"p52\">\u00a0With 400 HP and 369 lb-ft on\u00a0<span id=\"1180\">tap<\/span>,\u00a0<span id=\"1379\">mated<\/span>\u00a0to a six-speed gearbox and a limited-slip differential, the new\u00a0<span id=\"133\" class=\"s-rg-t\">M5<\/span> would spin the rear tires with <span id=\"1181-1182\">ease<\/span>.<\/span><span id=\"p53\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"p53\"><span id=\"201-1183\">The suspension<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"1380-1381\">received<\/span>\u00a0significant\u00a0<span id=\"1184-1185\">updates<\/span>, with aluminum wishbones at\u00a0the to\u00a0<span id=\"1390-1391\">say<\/span>.<\/span><span id=\"p64\">\u00a0The other\u00a0<span id=\"265\">main<\/span>\u00a0difference\u00a0<span id=\"1392-1393\">was<\/span>, once more, under the\u00a0<span id=\"1204\">hood<\/span>.<\/span><span id=\"p65\">\u00a0With BMW being\u00a0<span id=\"266\">highly<\/span>\u00a0involved in Formula One at that\u00a0<span id=\"1205-1206\">time<\/span>, it\u00a0<span id=\"1394-1395\">is<\/span>\u00a0no\u00a0<span id=\"1207-1208\">surprise<\/span>\u00a0to find much of that\u00a0<span id=\"1209-1210\">technology<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"1396\">pouring<\/span> into new <span id=\"141\" class=\"s-rg-t\">M5<\/span>.<\/span><span id=\"p66\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"p66\">For\u00a0<span id=\"1211-1212\">starts<\/span>, a\u00a0<span id=\"142-1213-1214\" class=\"s-rg-t\">V10<\/span><span id=\"1213-1214\">\u00a0engine<\/span>,\u00a0<span id=\"1397-1398\">developing<\/span>\u00a0out 500 HP and 384 lb-ft of\u00a0<span id=\"1215\">torque<\/span>, with a redline just over 8.200\u00a0<span id=\"143\" class=\"s-rg-t\">RPM<\/span>.<\/span><span id=\"p67\"> Next, a 7 speed <span id=\"288\">sequential<\/span>\u00a0manual\u00a0<span id=\"214\">gearbox<\/span>, which\u00a0<span id=\"1399-1400\">was<\/span>\u00a0the fastest shifting\u00a0<span id=\"215\">gearbox<\/span>\u00a0at the\u00a0<span id=\"1216-1217\">time<\/span>.<\/span><span id=\"p68\">\u00a0And lastly, electronically limited-slip differential\u00a0<span id=\"1401\">ensured<\/span> superb control at the <span id=\"1218-1219\">limit<\/span>.<\/span><span id=\"p69\">\u00a0Although the\u00a0<span id=\"144\" class=\"s-rg-t\">E60<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"1402-1403\">was<\/span>\u00a0a true race-inspired sedan, with one\u00a0<span id=\"1220-1221\">push<\/span>\u00a0of the\u00a0<span id=\"1222-1223\">button<\/span>\u00a0it would\u00a0<span id=\"1404-1405\">transform<\/span>\u00a0into a\u00a0<span id=\"267\">comfortable<\/span>\u00a0family car.<\/span><span id=\"p1448\">\u00a0This time, it was even available in a practical touring version.<\/span><span id=\"p71\">\u00a0During production 2005 &#8211; 2010 run,\u00a0a <span id=\"1229-1230\">total<\/span>\u00a0of 20.548\u00a0<span id=\"1231-1232\">cars<\/span>\u00a0were\u00a0<span id=\"1408-1409\">made<\/span>.<\/span><span id=\"p72\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1708 size-full bigger and\u00a0<span id=\"269\">somewhat<\/span>\u00a0heavier than the previous model.<\/span><span id=\"p75\">\u00a0And by this\u00a0<span id=\"1238-1239\">time<\/span>, the\u00a0<span id=\"1240-1241\">era<\/span>\u00a0of\u00a0<span id=\"270\">bigger<\/span>\u00a0engines and more cylinders came to a predictable end, as even the\u00a0<span id=\"209\">new<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"148\" class=\"s-rg-t\">M5<\/span>\u00a0succumbed to the downsizing trends.<\/span><span id=\"p76\">\u00a0Luckily, all-new twin-turbocharged V8 with 550 HP and a massive 502 lb-ft of <span id=\"1242\">torque<\/span>, was more than capable of handling the\u00a0<span id=\"271\">extra<\/span>\u00a0weight.<\/span><span id=\"p77\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"p77\">It was\u00a0<span id=\"1414\">combined<\/span>\u00a0with a 7-speed dual-clutch\u00a0<span id=\"289\">transmission<\/span>, first of its <span id=\"1243-1244\">kind<\/span>\u00a0in\u00a0an\u00a0<span id=\"150\" class=\"s-rg-t\">M5<\/span>.<\/span><span id=\"p78\">\u00a0And with active M-differential capable of\u00a0<span id=\"1245\">torque<\/span>\u00a0vectoring, the\u00a0<span id=\"1246-1247\">car<\/span>\u00a0would\u00a0<span id=\"272\">easily<\/span>\u00a0find any shred of\u00a0<span id=\"151-1248-1249\" class=\"s-or-t\">grip<\/span>.<\/span><span id=\"p79\">\u00a0Sure, purists were a little hesitant to\u00a0<span id=\"1415-290\">embrace<\/span>\u00a0the forced-induction, but the\u00a0<span id=\"1250-1251\">acceleration<\/span>\u00a0and top speed figures spoke for themselves.<\/span><span id=\"p80\">\u00a0Even the\u00a0<span id=\"1254\">fuel economy<\/span>\u00a0was\u00a0<span id=\"274\">noticeably<\/span>\u00a0improved.<\/span><span id=\"p81\">\u00a0However, this\u00a0<span id=\"1255-1256\">generation<\/span>\u00a0seemed to\u00a0<span id=\"1418-1419\">lack<\/span>\u00a0some of the steering\u00a0<span id=\"1420-1421\">feel<\/span>\u00a0and overall race driving experience.<\/span><span id=\"p82\">\u00a0In the\u00a0<span id=\"1257-1258\">end<\/span>, the\u00a0<span id=\"152\" class=\"s-rg-t\">F10<\/span>\u00a0lasted for seven\u00a0<span id=\"1259-1260\">years<\/span>, with 19.533\u00a0<span id=\"1261-1262\">cars<\/span>\u00a0made.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1710 size-full lazyload\" previous generation\u00a0<span id=\"1424-1425-277\">was<\/span>\u00a0a\u00a0<span id=\"276\">fast<\/span>\u00a0and capable car, many\u00a0<span id=\"1426-1427-222\">argued<\/span><span id=\"222\">\u00a0that it\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"1428-1429-222-278\">lost<\/span><span id=\"222\">\u00a0some<\/span> of the \u2018Ultimate Driving Machine\u2019 <span id=\"1430-1431\">feel<\/span>.<\/span><span id=\"p86\">\u00a0To\u00a0<span id=\"1432-1433\">set<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"1263-1264\">things<\/span>\u00a0straight, new\u00a0<span id=\"155\" class=\"s-rg-t\">F90<\/span>\u00a0raises the\u00a0<span id=\"1265-1266\">stakes<\/span>\u00a0with maybe the most radical updates so far.<\/span><span id=\"p87\">\u00a0And this\u00a0<span id=\"1267-1268\">time<\/span>, they are not under the\u00a0<span id=\"1269\">hood<\/span>.<\/span><span id=\"p88\">\u00a0Even though the <span id=\"1272-1273\">engine<\/span>\u00a0is\u00a0<span id=\"279\">now<\/span>\u00a0delivering\u00a0<span id=\"156\" class=\"s-rg-t\">590HP<\/span>\u00a0and 550 lb-ft of\u00a0<span id=\"1274\">torque<\/span>, it is essentially the same turbocharged V8 from the previous generation.<\/span><span id=\"p89\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"p89\">The game-changer is\u00a0<span id=\"1434-1435\">hidden<\/span>\u00a0underneath the\u00a0<span id=\"1275-1276\">car<\/span>, as this is the first time any M-car uses\u00a0an <span id=\"218\">all-wheel<\/span>\u00a0drive.<\/span><span id=\"p90\">\u00a0However, even in the normal drive, the X-drive system is biased towards the rear\u00a0<span id=\"219\">wheels<\/span>.<\/span><span id=\"p91\">\u00a0And, it can also be configured to disconnect the front axle,\u00a0<span id=\"1437-1438-281\">sending<\/span>\u00a0all the\u00a0<span id=\"1283-1284\">power<\/span>\u00a0to the rear\u00a0<span id=\"220\">wheels<\/span>\u00a0only.<\/span><span id=\"p1449\">\u00a0Another major update is a gearbox, with the current car being available only with an automatic transmission.<\/span><span id=\"p93\">\u00a0It may seem odd at\u00a0<span id=\"1286-1287\">first<\/span>, but the 8-speed automatic\u00a0<span id=\"1441-1442-284\">is<\/span>\u00a0a\u00a0<span id=\"1288-1289\">state<\/span>\u00a0of the\u00a0<span id=\"1290-1291\">art<\/span>\u00a0that shifts as fast as DTC gearbox while being far more durable.<\/span><span id=\"p94\">\u00a0All this, combined with a weight reduction of 40kg, helped\u00a0<span id=\"1443-1444\">re-establish<\/span>\u00a0the new\u00a0<span id=\"158\">M5<\/span>\u00a0as a\u00a0<span id=\"1292-1293\">king<\/span> of performance family cars.<\/span><span id=\"p95\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter
