However, it apparently won&#8217;t be enough to stop them from achieving the goals they had already set. That\u2019s especially true for Toyota, which had a hectic year, giving us the exceptional rally-derived GR <a href=\"https:\/\/www.emanualonline.com\/blog\/tag\/yaris\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yaris<\/a>. Now, the Japanese carmaker showcases the full-on Rally version.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.emanualonline.com\/blog\/tag\/toyota\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Toyota<\/a> has already announced that the 2021 GR Yaris would not launch in the United States. However, Toyota will not be entering the World Rally Championship because the Covid-19 pandemic has caused some financial issues. Instead, Toyota would be using the previous model, which won the championship last year anyway.<\/p>\n<p>However, there is still some ray of hope for Toyota. Namely, the rally special Yaris AP4 will participate in the Australian Rallying Championship as a part of Toyota Gazoo Racing Australia\u2019s rally team. Toyota developed the car in collaboration with Neal Bates Motorsport, who manages the TGR team and has already won the Australian Championship four times.<\/p>\n<p>The work on the Yaris AP4 started in March this year. However, that wasn&#8217;t an easy task. Developing and testing the Yaris AP4 during the pandemic turned out to be quite complicated.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13942 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.emanualonline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Toyota-GR-Yaris-Rally-3-1.jpg\" alt=\"Toyota GR Yaris Rally\" width=\"840\" height=\"560\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/www.emanualonline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Toyota-GR-Yaris-Rally-3-1.jpg 840w, https:\/\/www.emanualonline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Toyota-GR-Yaris-Rally-3-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.emanualonline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Toyota-GR-Yaris-Rally-3-1-768x512.jpg 768w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 840px) 100vw, 840px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 840px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 840\/560;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To counter the slight setback, Toyota Australia\u2019s team and Neal Bates\u2019 rally team used virtual technology to develop external body concepts.<\/p>\n<p>Following that, the teams fine-tuned individual components using the latest technology to comply with AP4 rally regulations.<\/p>\n<p>However, none of the parties involved have revealed whether there are changes to the power output. The modified car probably shares the same 1.6-liter turbocharged engine from the street-legal version, producing 268 bhp and 272 lb-ft of torque.
